Why we Love Straight White Discharge!

September 22, 2011No Comments

Many customers want white printing on dark shirts, and not slightly off white but bright white.

For this technique we use straight white discharge.

To get the best result, white pigmented discharge needs to be used.

Discharge ink removes the dye of the cotton fiber when it reaches a certain temperature. As the ink is removing the dye from the t-shirt it is also returning it to its natural state, and replacing with the dye in the discharge ink. Discharge ink can be used with most 100% cotton shirts. It will not work on poly or poly blend fabrics.

With straight white discharge you can see the weave of the shirt, and the print becomes part of the shirt.

You can do a straight discharge print that has no dye added; this will leave your printed area the natural color of the shirt before it was dyed in the factory.  Sometimes this natural color will be white, or could be an off white depending on the shirt.

The results happen when curing, as the discharge activates at 250 or 300 degrees in the oven, and discharges the dye out of the fabric under the white pigment. So it’s like printing a white ink on a beige shirt now, instead of printing a white ink on a black shirt.

The process leaves you a super soft white print on a dark garment with very minimal hand.
