Discharge Ink Shirt Printing
Discharge inks are special inks used in the process of Custom Screen Printing. Called discharge printing, or Extract Printing, this is a method of applying designs to dyed fabrics by using a color destroying agent, such as Chlorine, to bleach the dye from a garment, then infusing a dye that is immune to the agent, producing a colored design that has a soft hand feel. Discharge printing has been around a while, but it has been only in the past few years that garment printers have been able to fully exploit it’s capabilities. In the past, Plastisol inks had to be applied to the surface of the dark colored garment in heavy layers to block out the dark color to achieve an opaque print design. This resulted in a print that had a thick plastic feel to it. The discharge printing process allows the ink to absorb into the fibers of the garment, producing a fine, soft feel.
Some limitations exist with Discharge Printing. One example of this is that the garment must be made of 100% cotton fiber to ensure a vivid print, although on occasion, a blended fabric will be used to produce a washed out, vintage look.
Water-based Ink Shirt Printing
Water-based inks are also used for a “soft hand feel”. A soft hand is the condition where the ink film cannot easily be felt with the hand when the hand is passed along the surface of the shirt. It has taken us years to perfect the use of water-based inks. They are much more difficult to cure than traditional plastisol inks.
Jumbo-Over Sized Shirt Printing
Jumbo-Over Sized Shirt Printing has really become popular in the recent years mainly due to the action sports/mma world. Over sized printing is produced using jumbo screens allowing for a much larger print than traditional screens allow. Jumbo printing can utilize multiple colors unlike belt printing which is limited to 2-colors.
All Over & Belt Printing T-shirts
Belt Printing on t-shirts is also known as All Over Printing. All over screen printing has really become popular in the recent years mainly due to the action sports/mma world. All over printing or aka belt printing is done on large format printers that allow for the entire front or the entire back of the shirt to be printed with multiple colors. All over printing does not allow for tight registration which means that fine intricate logos cannot be produced effectively. We look at each customer’s needs to determine whether or not all over printing is needed. All over printing does serve as an inexpensive alternative to sublimation.
